Estimation of the angles of sources of electromagnetic waves by the method of decomposition of the signal

Many well-known methods for estimating signal parameters using a phased array antenna use signals from all elements of the antenna array. But in some systems during the primary signal processing the problem of spatial-spatial filtering is solved, which requires a large number of computing resources. Due to the limited number of resources, as a result, a small (much smaller than the number of elements in the antenna array) number of reception patterns is formed. But even in such systems, the question arises of estimating the angle of two sources close to each other in terms of angle of sources of electromagnetic waves.

The purpose of this work is to investigate a method that allows us to estimate the angles of radiation sources based on a combination of signals from several radiation patterns.

A method for estimating the angles of arrival of a signal from two sources of electromagnetic waves using an antenna array, forming a small number of radiation patterns for reception, is considered. This method was proposed due to the fact that most of the known methods for estimating angular coordinates use signals from all elements of the phased array, while in the studied system it is not possible to process these signals in the secondary processing unit.

The proposed method allows to reduce the error in estimating the angle of arrival of the signal, especially for antenna arrays of a small number of elements.
