Abstract:

Currently, there exists a certain lack of clarity regarding the application of mathematical models of armed conflict to support informed decision-making control decisions grounded in forecasts of evolving battlefield conditions during combat operations. An analysis of numerous publications reveals that contemporary viewpoints among authors are highly divergent and often contradictory-ranging from outright rejection of modeling as a whole, to a fully objective recognition of its necessity in the practice of military command and control. Collectively, these discrepancies have given rise to a critical problem: resolving the tension between the necessity and feasibility of employing mathematically adequate models that reflect the nature of modern armed conflict within the decision-making process.

The objective of this work is to develop methodological foundations for the design and development of mathematical models aimed at supporting informed decisions in troop (force) command and control.

This article presents an analysis of existing combat models and their alignment with contemporary trends in the evolution of military art. The necessity of advancing mathematical modeling is justified; its properties, principles, and distinctive features are examined, and key methodological approaches to their development are outlined.

Promising directions for the design and creation of combat models are proposed. Practical implementation of these models, in accordance with principles of economic efficiency and systemic compatibility with validated commercial solutions, will enable the creation of a cluster of combat models-serving as a tangible tool for supporting effective decision-making in troop command.
