Abstract:

The problem. Real-world antenna automatic control systems (ACS) contain numerous significant nonlinearities: drive power limitations, static hysteresis due to dry friction, and discrete angle sensor signals. Traditional training practices are typically based on linearized models, which leads to a gap between the theoretical training of specialists and the real-world challenges of designing controllers for nonlinear systems. There is a clear shortage of training and research systems that allow for the simultaneous study of dynamics, accuracy, element identification, and the influence of typical nonlinearities on transient processes in a physically implemented antenna control system within a laboratory setting.

Target. To develop an "Antenna Control System" training and research system based on modern hardware components and to study the dynamic characteristics of this system, taking into account specified nonlinearities, for the purpose of providing practice-oriented training in the design of ACS controllers.

Results. A training and research complex has been developed and manufactured. It continuously collects angular coordinates from two incremental encoders, generates an error signal, and controls a DC motor via a driver. Functional and structural diagrams of the system with a software relay in the control loop have been constructed. The complex enables a range of studies: dynamics analysis, accuracy assessment, element identification, and the study of the influence of nonlinearities on the quality of transient processes.

Practical significance. The developed complex ensures highly realistic training experiments by using physical components and the natural nonlinearities of a real drive. The modular design and ease of setup enable the study of a wide range of problems – from the analysis of linear modes to the investigation of limit cycles and the influence of sensor discreteness. The ability to repeatedly reproduce experiments improves the effectiveness of engineering competency development. The complex has been successfully integrated into the educational process of the Department of Control in Technical Systems at SUAI.
