Asymptotic method of calculating radiation pattern of the axisymmetric convex antenna array with account of interaction of slot elements

Abstract:

In the paper on the basis of the asymptotic differential equation method the design expressions for the array slot element pattern in the axisymmetric phased array antenna with an arbitrary shape of the convex generatrix, an arbitrary fixed angle slot axis relative to the generatrix and a rectangular or triangular array grid have been obtained. The expressions take into account the interaction of slot elements, are approximate asymptotic and applicable in case of large electrical size of the antenna. Solution is obtained for the known distribution of the electric field in the slot, but can be extended on the case of unknown distribution by the method of moments. Along the way the expressions for the radiation pattern of isolated slot located on an arbitrary smooth convex axisymmetrical surface have been obtained. The validity of the expressions has been confirmed by the test calculations for some special cases with the known strict solution.
