Abstract:

The article is devoted to the safety of using the components of the digital educational environment. Modern education is intensively filled with digital resources: products and services. The opportunities of online education for all categories of citizens are expanding, primarily for schoolchildren and students. On the example of compressed digital multimedia files, widespread in the information space, possible risks of their inclusion in the educational environment are illustrated. The principles of creating compressed multimedia files are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to approaches to compression, resulting in an irreparable loss of a significant part of the original natural signal. The basis of such modification of the signal is the perceptual principle. The process of human perception of engineering-modified sound and image has significant differences from the perception of natural sound and image. This difference is shown by the example of audio MP3 files. There is a question about the possibility of a negative impact on the health of learners of the systematic use of educational materials containing lossy digital files. It is pointed out that many of the multimedia compression standards are a legacy of the past stages of technological development and, if necessary, can be replaced by more modern analogues, lacking the defects of the predecessors. A complete or partial exclusion of the use of the perceptual principle in the creation of digital multimedia files included in electronic educational resources is proposed.
