Abstract:

The paper is devoted to the analysis of characteristics of the following dual-mode conical horn antennas: the Potter horn and its modification known as the Skobelev horn. Both antennas have almost symmetric radiation pattern with lowered sidelobe level in the E-plane. Numerical simulation of such antennas is performed and mechanism of symmetrization of the radiation patterns of these horns are analyzed. It has been found that a tapered amplitude distribution is formed in apertures of both horns, while the phase distribution is close to the phase distribution in a standard conical horn. Amplitude-phase distributions in the region of the irregularity ensuring formation of the tapered aperture distribution are different for the Potter horn and the Skobelev horn and both differ from aperture distributions in these horns.
