Abstract:
In modern systems for monitoring of electromagnetic situation in the microwave range broadband antenna systems, phased array antennas (PAA) and multi-beam phased arrays with oblique linear polarization are used. In some cases, these PAA can be formed from elements with horizontal or vertical polarization of the emitted electromagnetic waves. Rotation of the polarization plane is carried out by means of the transmission-type polarization rotators (polarizers) disposed in the phased array aperture. Multistage transmission-type polarizers are the most studied. They provide rotation of wave polarization in a wide frequency range and a large sector of incidence angles. Properties of such polarizers as a series of the thick wire grids with different angles of inclination of the conductors in adjacent grids well studied in the case of normal incidence of the plane wave on the polarizer. At the same time, issues of design of transmission-type polarizers of scanning phased array and the angular-frequency characteristics of the entire system of "PAA-polarizer" are not well investigated. The technique of design is specified and the angle-frequency characteristics of the broadband four-grid 45-degree rotator of polarization using for operation in an aperture of phased antenna array in the sector of scan angles ±45° and more have been analyzed. The estimates of effect of a polarizer on the characteristics of PAA model in the form of the linear array of parallel-plate waveguides have been provided in the sector of scan angles ±45° in the E-plane. VSWR on an input of PAA with a polarizer doesn\'t exceed 1,6 in frequency band 8-18 GHz. On the boundary of the sector of scanning 45° lowering of PAA gain on 1,5 dB, extension of the main lobe of the radiation pattern and difference of the amplitudes of the orthogonal components of the far field by about 3 dB are observed. Polarization of the far field of PAA remains to the almost linear oblique polarization in the given sector of scanning. The work has been performed at the Share Scientific Center - Applied electrodynamics and antenna measurements - of Southern Federal University as project part of the state task No. 8.2461.2014/K of the Ministry of Education of Russia.
