Fields calculation of phased antenna arrays with multilayered covers

Abstract:
The multilayers covers are often used for the aim of improving of phased antenna array-s characteristics and constructing antenna radomes. Such covers structures consist of several dielectric layers and (or) perforated metal screens or wire grids. The article de-scribes the procedure of field computations for antenna array with such kind of antenna cover. Those screens and meshes should be made as periodic structures and can be treated as diffraction arrays. Multilayer covers can be located directly on the array aperture or at some distance from it. The paper considers a rigorous calculation procedure for flat antenna arrays, which periods of radiators lo-cation are equal or multiples to the periods of the diffraction grids. The calculation is based on the use of the apparatus of general-ized scattering matrices that take into account the spread of high order spatial field harmonics. The calculating algorithm is universal and applicable for any number of layers. It is based on solving the main problem of field calculations for selected type of array. A number of numerical examples have been presented for waveguide array with dielectric cover, as well as for frequency-selective multi-layer sur-faces.
