The open limit biconical resonator calculation

Abstract:
The quality of shielded volume resonators, working on fundamental oscillations, falls with increase in frequency, so the effectiveness of their application as oscillatory systems is the lower, their wavelength is the shorter.
It should be noted that the wide practical application of open limit resonators was hindered by the lack of strict electrodynamic methods of their calculation. In particular, when using such resonators in radiospectroscopy and in electronic devices, you must ensure the specified field distribution along the length of the resonator, and this requires a strict solution of the boundary value problem. The use of approximate methods of calculating, for example, a method based on the approach of "weakly irregular" waveguide allowed to get only the resonance frequencies. In addition, these methods cannot be used for calculation of crystals with arbitrary law of changing of the cross section size and shape along the longitudinal coordinate.
Oscillation in the copper cylindrical resonator with certain dimensions of radius and length has a Q-factor of about 28000. Q-value of the biconical resonator with the same oscillations can be increased more than twice in comparison with cylindrical.
