Miniaturization of antenna system of spacecraft "Ionosphere"

Abstract:
At present, there is an active process of miniaturization of the whole space technology, including on-board equipment. On-board an-tenna-feeder devices also considered the process of miniaturization. Considering number of features of on-board antennas, there is an actual, modern task of developing a small-sized, low-profile, reliable, simple and high-tech antenna system of small satellites. The purpose of this paper is to show the advantage of microstrip antennas designed by printing technology in solving the problem of design small-sized, low-profile on-board antenna systems for small spacecrafts consisting in the fact that these antennas have a low mass, volume, cost of the production, simplicity of construction etc. For practical application, this type of antenna was proposed to design a new antenna system of small spacecraft "Ionosphere" included in space complex "Ionosonde" created by JSC \"Corporation VNIIEM\" commissioned by the Russian Federal Space Agency. The models of UHF-band and VHF-band on-board microstrip patch antennas developed using computer-aided design Agilent Electro-magnetic Professional are presented. To design a miniature microstrip antenna was chosen dielectric FLAN with dielectric permittivity ε = 10 and loss tangent tgδ = 0,0015. The models parameters of the primary interest such as voltage standing-wave ratio, radiation pattern, and antenna gain were evaluated and optimized during the numerical simulation to satisfy the requirements of technical specifications for antenna system of small spacecraft \"Ionosphere\".
