Abstract:
An avalanche diode can be in the states of stable amplification or stable generation of natural oscillations. The last state allows using of either the synchronization mode of oscillations of the modulating signal, or autodyne conversion mode, when the level of the modulating signal is not sufficient for synchronization. All three states of IMPATT diode can be used for signal detection at an effective interaction between modulated optical oscillations and an electron beam generated in the IMPATT diode p-n junction during the development of the charge carriers avalanche.
Analytical apparatus of the mentioned process develops on the basis of the solution of the detection system equation, resulted in the frequency response detector obtained in any of the above modes. Besides the output relationships determining the power of the detection product depending on the initial parameters of the system, taking into account the modulation factor and DC optical current in the IMPATT diode p-n junction are derived.
