Linear array antenna with a broad operating sector in elevation plane

Abstract:
Linear array antenna (AA) is considered, which provides cosecant type radiation pattern with broaden operating sector in elevation plane. AA is made by printed circuit board technology and uses 14-channel beam forming network. Outputs of beam former feeds radiating elements which are arranged relatively dense on aperture. Design of the linear AA accounts radiators' mutual coupling and its influence on directivity as well as provides good matching of system's structural elements. Comparative analysis of the theoretical and experimental characteristics is made, and recommendations are provided for refinement of the computational electromagnetic model and debugging of the experimental AA setup. The good agreement of calculated and measured electrical parameters of the AA was reached, which confirms the rightness of chosen design concept as well as correctness of calculations and experiments. Differences of characteristics were mainly associated with the proximity of electromagnetic analysis because of system model's decoupling onto structural part, technological errors admitted in the manufacture and debugging of the experimental setup, measurement errors.
