Abstract:
A compact metamaterial antenna is discussed, which consists of a microstrip radiator covered by metamaterial slab. Cross-sections of the radiator and the slab are of the same size. The slab consists of several layers of parallel metallic planar spiral array, placed in dielectric matrix. Experimental setup of antenna pattern and VSWR is described. Measured characteristics of microstrip radiator and microstrip radiator covered by metamaterial slab are given. It is found that the presence of the slab narrows beamwidth by 2,3 times. However, longitudinal size of the antenna is increased.
