Technology of the Hot Dip Galvanizing as a Variant of Extending the Operating Life of Large Metal Structures Antenna-Feeder Devices

Abstract:
One of the most important tasks that must be solved at the organization and production of large antenna-feeder devices, that weigh tens of tons and occupies the area of thousand square meters, is to protect such products from corrosion. Having considered the design of large antenna-feeder devices (AFD), it is clear that one of the main components of the units responsible for strength, durability and reliability of these products are the supporting structures: masts, towers, supports, platforms. These components are designed compounds for convenience of manufacture, mounting, transportation and reach the size of a length of about five meters and weighing up to one ton. The most common method of corrosion protection is the application of lacquer coating which protects for 5...7 years depending on the operating conditions. It may be noted that the service life of large AFD must be tens of years because of the large capital investment. There is a need to protect the metal structures more durable coating. One of the most common and reliable method of corrosion protection is hot galvanizing. Note the advantage of the zinc coating, that, unlike lacquer coating, provide not only the barrier but electrochemical protection. As a result of the galvanic couple formation zinc protects the parent metal from corrosion, even in places of scratches and holes. After analyzing the technical information and cost items for this coverage, the authors suppose to use as an additional protective coating, hot galvanizing.
