Patch slot leaky-wave antenna with additional slot oscillators with short electrical length

Abstract:
A method for improving technical specifications of a patch slot leaky-wave antenna is proposed. The antenna is intended for receiving GLONASS/GPS navigation signals in three frequency bands: L1, L2 and L3. The method is to create additional slots with shorter electrical length in radiating surface of the antenna. The additional slots are integrated between main slot radiators and designed as concentric arcs around the geometric center of the antenna. The comparison of the technical specifications of the additional slot antenna with those of the antenna without additional slots. It is shown that introducing additional slots with shorter electrical length results in adjusting the frequency dependence of the antenna gain, improving the ellipticity and increasing the suppression of the cross-polarization in three operating bands of the antenna: L1, L2 and L3. It has been found that improving technical specifications of the antenna is due to the current loop in the main slot radiators being more uniformly distributed along their length owing to the additional slots.
