Abstract:
In article is considered a not well known among russian engineers in the field of electromagnetics and antenna engineering global optimization technique using Taguchi-s method and its modifications, wich are easy to implement and very efficient in reaching optimum solutions compared with traditional optimization techniques. The mentioned method is developed based on the orthogonal array (OA) concept, which can effectively reduce the number of test required in an optimization procedure. This article briefly reviews the definition and important properties of OAs. As a key part of Ta-guchi-s method, the OA concept can also be applied in other optimization techniques to improve their performance. Successful example using Taguchi-s method is a ultra-wideband antenna design. Seven parameters are optimized to achieve the design goal and antenna with optimized dimensions have been fabricated and measured. The frequency band of a measured voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR < 2) is 2.8-12.1 GHz, which correspond to an impedance bandwidth of 124.8 %. Good agreement between simulated and measured VSWR (f) in the band 3.1-11.8 GHz is observed. Radiation pattern of the fabricated antenna are measured at 4.0, 5.5, 8.5 and 10.0 GHz. It can seen substantial variation its form in the impedance bandwidth of antenna.
