Optimization of a Narrowband Ultrawide-Angle Receiving-Transmitting Active Phased Antenna Array

Abstract:
As a result of analysis of external characteristics of a narrowband ultrawide-angle (with observing sector of 120 0) active phased antenna array it is shown that, from the point of view of material expenses and quality of radio engineering characteristics, it is advisably to use two wide-angle (with observing sector of 600) phased antenna arrays for overlapping a given observing sector. Here, due to the condition of providing a practically constant radiation pattern width and a nonuniform gain of about 2 dB, the number of radiators and, accordingly, receivers and transmitters, is reduced from 2 to 4 times in comparison with a ultrawide-angle antenna. Inappropriateness of using the circular polarization in ultrawide-angle phased antenna arrays is also shown.
