Optimization of the Enumeration of Phased Array Elements in the Univariate Phase-Only Synthesis of the Radiation Pattern Nulls

Abstract:
The problem of minimization of the number of steps in the univariate phase-only synthesis of phased array pattern nulls is considered. Operation of the optimized algorithm and an algorithm with random selection of the array elements is analyzed by the example of synthesis of a single null. It is shown that selection at each step of the element ensuring the maximum change of the minimized functional allows twofold reduction in the average number of steps as compared to an unordered selection of the array elements. Time efficiencies of the both variants of the univariate method are compared. Domains in the phased array aperture that contain elements ensuring the maximum change in the minimized functional at each step are determined. A variant of the synthesis method that does not require the search for the optimum element at each step is proposed. The influence of enumeration of array elements on the shape of the synthesized pattern is studied. Estimates of the level of distortions of the initial pattern are obtained for two analyzed variants of the synthesis algorithm.
