Preclinical evaluation of new drug compounds involves assessing their efficacy and safety. However, the administration of the test substance to animals often necessitates the use of excipients (carriers). The aim of this study is to conduct a comparative analysis of the use of excipients and systematize data on the frequency of their use in preclinical studies.
By reviewing the accompanying documentation from our research center’s pharmacy service and analyzing available literature sources, we identified the most common routes and methods of administering test substances to animals, as well as the range of excipients used. Additionally, this paper highlights key difficulties associated with the use of excipients. The study has identified the need for developing guidelines for the use of excipients, and underscoring the importance of systematizing data on pathologies associated with them to improve the accuracy and reliability of research results.
