The increase in the importance of distance learning using information technology has significantly changed the nature of educational activities, reducing the role of collective components of education, non-verbal forms of information transfer, increasing the importance of individual composing in the educational process. At the same time, in many studies, there are differences in the autonomic support of operator activity in men and women.
The research aimed to study the features of autonomic response in boys and girls during intensive work on the Internet during the period of study.
It surveyed 48 students (26 boys and 22 girls) carrying out active continuous work on the Internet on an assignment, which included the search for information and writing essays on the psychological characteristics of the perception of information online. The total time of continuous operation was 180 minutes. The vegetative status studied in the subjects according to the indicators of the analysis of heart rate variability (HRV). These indicators recorded before working on the computer and after completing the task.
The following indicators studied RMSSD – (ms) square root of the sum of the squares of the difference between the values of successive pairs of R-R intervals; SDNN – the standard deviation from the average duration of all R-R intervals, the power of the spectra of various frequency ranges. HF (high frequency) – reflecting the activity of the parasympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system and LF (low frequency) – reflecting the arousal of the sympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system. The registered HRV data obtained before working on the computer showed no significant differences between the surveyed groups of boys and girls. At the same time, after intensive studies on the Internet to search for information on the stated topic, significant differences revealed. Boys characterized the vegetative status by general vagotonia, and in girls, by partial sympathicotonia.
The results obtained allow us to assert that long-term studies in the digital space among boys and girls in the learning environment significantly affect vegetative status. In this regard, it is necessary to conduct further research to develop guidelines and sanitary and hygienic standards that take into account the peculiarities of autonomic response in men and women when organizing a productive educational process with the intensive use of computer technology.
