Abstract:

Problem Statement. The development of fifth and next generation technologies has reached a point where they can provide fast data transmission, minimal latency and reliable connectivity. This opens up a wide range of possibilities for remote health monitoring. Recently, these technologies have played an important role in anaesthesiology-resuscitation departments by implementing closed-loop systems. They represent an application of continuous remote monitoring using high-performance predictive algorithms, some of which incorporate artificial intelligence approaches.

The aim of the article is to explore the prospects for the implementation and use of remote patient health surveillance using ICT.

Results. The study process provides a brief characterisation of remote patient monitoring systems. The benefits and opportunities that these systems are able to provide to physicians and patients using the numerous advances in medical information and digital technologies are outlined. The elements of a remote patient monitoring system, which is a four-component structure, are also highlighted. Special emphasis is placed on the need to analyse the data stored in the information system using various algorithms and rules. A description of the medical decision support system developed with the participation of the authors, which is a part of the ‘Anaesthesiologist-Reanimatologist’ ARM functioning on the basis of the Samara State Medical University, is presented. Business processes of the system operation and its interaction with the user are described in detail.

Practical significance. The obtained results can be useful for determining the possibilities of applied use of remote monitoring systems in priority clinical processes, for example, in the course of anaesthesia depth management during surgery. In addition, they may find application in the development of systems for automatic adjustment of anaesthetic management of the patient, offering new opportunities for preventive care, early intervention and personalised treatment plans.
