Abstract:

This paper opens a series of articles under the general title «An Approach to Automating Business Processes of a Scientific Organization», in which the team of authors proposes to consider various aspects of the digitization of activities of both research institutes and other categories of enterprises and organizations.

The processes of automating business processes of enterprises and organizations, including research institutes, are now entering a new stage, which is characterized by digitization not only of the main activities, but also the entire life of the organization. When solving this problem, a number of issues arise in the design, development and implementation of computing systems that implement the required functionality.

Scientific divisions belong to the teams whose work is automated most difficultly, since creative activity is subject to automation: the study of external sources of information, the preparation of articles and reports, and communication with colleagues from other organizations and states. When analyzing the specifics of automating the work of research teams, it is necessary to separately consider the algorithms of employees' work with information received and sent via deliberately open communication channels, this applies to regular e-mail and work on the Internet, and also take into account such categories of work performed by the research team as preparation and meetings of the academic council, organization of scientific events (seminars, conferences, round tables), editorial and publishing activities, work with scientific databases (Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, etc.), the activities of dissertation councils, postgraduate and doctoral departments, expert activities, etc.

A preliminary analysis of the existing situation in scientific institutions showed that the vast majority of functional blocks and information systems used to automate business processes of an organization actively interact with each other. In this regard, it seems to be an effective way to introduce a new information system that will integrate all currently operating, as well as promising, programs into a single software package.
