Abstract:

At now, the theory of ground wave propagation near a homogeneous dielectric has been fully developed. A few of particular solutions are known that allow one to estimate the ground wave field strength level both in the flat Earth surface approximation and taking into account diffraction on the spherical surface of the Earth. In real state, the underlying surface near which the ground wave propagates is a vertically inhomogeneous medium with an arbitrary dielectric permittivity profile. The paper presents the results of assessing the radiophysical characteristics of the underlying surface for different types of complex permittivity profiles in the near-surface soil layer.
