Abstract:

Reliable interpretation of the results of geo-radar sounding of subsurface space provides for the availability of information on the electrophysical properties of ground materials. In the practice of geo-radar research, it is quite often necessary to deal with heterogeneous clay geological environments. For this reason, studies of changes in the electrophysical properties of clay soil samples with the addition of gypsum in different mass ratios become relevant.

To investigate the attenuation of electromagnetic radiation in conducting heterogeneous soils of low humidity with the addition of gypsum.

Changes in the electrophysical properties of clay soil samples were studied when gypsum was added in the mass ratio of 0%, 15% and 30% in the humidity ranges of 0-12% and frequencies of 1200–1700 MHz. Analysis of the calculated values of the attenuation coefficient made it possible to estimate the dielectric effect of ions dissolved from gypsum at low humidity of the host mineral matrices. As a result of the research, it was found that in clay soils, the relative permittivity, specific conductivity and attenuation coefficient are more sensitive to humidity and gypsum concentration.

The considered mechanisms, explaining the experimental data obtained, allow for a decrease in the depth of the georadolocation diagnostics of the roadbed in arid areas where natural humidity is close to zero, by the influence of EM–V. It is established that engineering-geological conditions determining the density and chemical composition of electrolyte soils at humidity levels up to 12% can have a significant impact on the effectiveness of the method.
