Abstract:

At present, there are several analytical descriptions of the dependences of the wave propagation constant along the conductor of a near-ground antenna on the characteristics of the underlying surface. The results of calculating the wave propagation constant under the same conditions (frequency range, soil characteristics, etc.) differ significantly for different dependences.

The aim of the work is to verify the known methods for calculating the wave propagation constant along the conductor of decametric wave band near-ground antenna by the criterion of accuracy in determining the wave propagation constant. Evaluation of the accuracy indicators of existing methods and discussion of their applicability for solving practical problems. Representation of a new dependence for a more accurate determination of the wave propagation constant under the considered conditions.

The results of approbation of well-known analytical methods for calculating the wave propagation constant along the conductor of a symmetrical near-ground dipole antenna, as well as experiments and calculations, made it possible to formulate a new dependence of the wave propagation constant on the characteristics of the underlying surface, which is distinguished by the highest accuracy.

The presented method for determining the wave propagation constant can be applied both in the design of surface antennas, and for non-destructive and operational measurement of the dielectric characteristics of the soil.
