Capacitors are one of the main types of elements used in the design of power electronics devices. The expected high requirements for the reliability and efficiency of modern power electronics devices bring to the fore the issues of the correct choice of the element base in the process of their research and development. As a consequence, the ability to correctly understand the information provided in the reference materials is one of the key factors contributing to the successful solution of scientific and technical problems in this area.
The purpose of this work is to conduct a study on the use of capacitors in power electronics devices and show how the information on capacitors in the reference material should be understood.
It is shown that capacitors are widely used in power electronics and in terms of quantity, as an element of an electronic circuit, they are second only to resistors. The main types of capacitors used in power electronics devices are presented. The main characteristics of capacitors, given in reference materials and determining the choice of developers when designing power electronics devices, are identified and explained.
Knowledge of the main types of capacitors used in power electronics devices and their main characteristics given in reference materials allows developers and design engineers who use them in the process of research and development to successfully design power electronics devices for solving tasks for the military, civil and dual-use purposes.
