Abstract:
A new compact design of a wideband microstrip antenna array for wireless communications is proposed, theoretically studied and successfully manufactured. In comparison with the known prototypes the proposed antenna shows higher gain (18-19 dB) in the wide operational frequency band 5.15-5.85 GHz. The antenna has more compact dimensions (210×125×5 mm) and easy manufactured design. The suggested antenna concept is based on the three key points. First one is employing the patches located on the back side of the suspended substrate which is parallel to the metallic screen. The dielectric sheet over the patches accumulates the near field, thus the improved gain and radiating efficiency of antenna are achieved. The second key feature of the antenna is the original way of the each individual patch excitation by means of two printed L-probes. It yields wide band impedance matching as well as increased gain due to grater length of the patch radiating area. The third key point of the suggested design is the original feeding network of antenna array based on inversed microsripline which is integrated with the patches on the back side of the dielectric substrate. Thus the antenna array consists of one printed circuit board mounted over the metallic screen on the fixed distance.
