Realization of Cartography System in OS Windows Applications with Microsoft Encarta ActiveX component

Abstract:
While modeling compound radiolocation systems necessity of displaying different objects on the map may emerge. Usage of cartographic background can be justified in the following cases: displaying moving objects; moving objects on the map by user; placing objects on the map; modeling of many objects - behavior. As an alternative to existing solutions usage of Microsoft Encarta ActiveX component is proposed. Microsoft Encarta application basically is an interactive globe, which, besides providing quality images of different areas - maps, also allows getting educational info about objects on the map. ActiveX component enables embedding of this interactive globe into user applications and provides interface for real-time change of displaying parameters of the map. In the paper realization of cartography system with Microsoft Encarta ActiveX component is considered. Advantages of the proposed method are: 1) High quality maps, provided by Microsoft Encarta application; 2) Large amount of objects displayed on the map; 3) Simple mechanism of component embedding into user applications; 4) Rich possibilities for customization of objects displayed on the map.
