The paper presents an interpretation of the relationship between pulse waves and the human respiratory cycle from the standpoint of Tibetan medicine. Previously, we considered this issue from the standpoint of European medicine using modern radiophysical and biophysical methods.
Statistical calculations of five newly formed pulse wave sequences corresponding to three time phases of the respiratory cycle, and, accordingly, five primary elements, showed the presence of periodic components in the studied signals, as well as the similarity of the pulse wave shapes to each other for a practically healthy person.
The behavior of the autocorrelation functions of the dynamic series, constructed from the amplitudes of the characteristic points of these pulse wave sequences, indicates the difference between its parameters and the time phases of the respiratory cycle. This confirms the relationship between pulse waves and primary elements postulated in Tibetan medical treatises. The difference in the pulse wave parameters, indicating their deviation from each other in different phases of the respiratory cycle and, corresponding to these time phases, the five primary elements, can serve as a diagnostic sign in determining the state of human functional systems.
The clarification of these patterns is necessary for the objectification and automation of pulse diagnostics using modern technical means of measuring biomedical signals and for comparing the results of pulse measurement by instrumental methods with the results of palpating the pulse by doctors-pulsodiagnostics. This is necessary for the development and creation of automated pulse diagnostic systems, interest in which is observed in many countries. The results obtained do not contradict modern medical and physiological research and are the subject of further study by doctors and physiologists.
