Abstract:
Venipuncture is a common procedure in medical practice that can be used for blood sampling in laboratory diagnosis, and infusion therapy with the use of needles and catheters in the lumen of the vein. For effective performance of venipuncture it is necessary to have information about the location of the needle relative to the blood vessel, otherwise, there are a high probability of injection complications. The main reasons of such complication are the double puncture of the blood vessel wall, the contact of needle bevel to the vessel wall, a partial needle insertion into the lumen of the vein. Today, the efficiency of venipuncture depends on the competence of the phlebotomist or the nurse. The automation of process, which based on objective information about the location of the injection needle, obtained by instrumental methods, can reduce the risk of complications and improve the quality of the manipulation by reducing the influence of the human factor. In the time of developing instrumental method of controlling puncture, the determination of the time and the fact of puncturing, as well as informing medical staff about it, is an actual task, in order to minimize injection complications.
