Abstract:
In modern life the human body is constantly exposed to stress factors of different nature, negatively affecting physical and emotional health. Modern medicine is increasingly used EHF-therapy using low-intensity millimeter electromagnetic radiation (MM EMR) with a frequency range from 40 to 100 GHz. This radiation has anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, anti-stress effect. In clinical practice, a contact way of MM-wave exposure to certain areas of the body is used. We have previously observed effects of non-contact action of radiation at various biological objects, the most active was the EMR at the resonant frequencies, in particular at a frequency of 65 GHz. The purpose of the study was to examine the nature of the non-contact exposure with low-level EMR 65 GHz on the state of laboratory animals in experimental stress in order to determine the possibility of using this radiation in clinical practice to improve the adaptive properties and stabilization of mental and emotional state of a person. Experiments were conducted using white outbred male rats for 15 days. As a source of EMR generator G4-142 with a pyramidal horn antenna 12 cm long was used. Laboratory animals were irradiated without fixing at a room temperature (21±1,0)оС within 30 minutes in continuous oscillating mode. EMR frequency was of 65 GHz, energy-flux density - 120 μW/cm2. For functional assessment of mental and emotional state of the animals standard behavioral tests "open field", "elevated plus maze" and a modified technique "forced swimming with load" were used. After the experiment the rats were decapitated, blood was used in biochemical research. The serum enzyme activity of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, lactate dehydrogenase, creatine kinase, the content of glucose, total protein, triglycerides were determined using biochemical analyzer Clima Plus (Spain). There was determined also the content of malondialdehyde in erythrocytes by the reaction between malondialdehyde and thiobarbituric acid. There was found out that brief non-contact exposure to EMR with a frequency of 65 GHz for 7 days increased physical endurance of laboratory animals by 20 %, more prolonged exposure (15 days) didn-t increase their endurance. The test results «open field» and "elevated plus maze" conducted on the 15th day of the experiment showed that the EMR frequency 65 GHz had anti-stress and anxiolytic effects at laboratory animals . Biochemical studies of animal blood had not revealed functional changes and development of oxidative processes in the organism after a 15-day exposure and MM-radiation of 65 GHz . Thus, we have found out that non-contact exposure of laboratory animals to EMR 65 GHz of low intensity improves their emotional state, contributing to the rapid adaptation to stressful influences.
