Abstract:
A widely used, classical methodology for sleep researches, as well as the criteria and classification of sleep phases, are oriented to the use only in clinical practice. Psychological testing, psychomotor study, and recording of the phase structure of nighttime sleep and autonomic functions are performed by modern methods under clinical conditions. A comprehensive and complex study of vital functions during nighttime sleep requires the development of an information-and-equipment device, which would allow monitoring of sleep in a real everyday life. The elaborated information system provides the following issues: recording of the phase structure of sleep; monitoring of cardiac activity and breathing during sleep; wake-up of a subject in the pre-determined optimal phase of sleep (as regards the psychophysiological state of this subject); and interruption of hazardous phases of sleep that can be accompanied by severe cardiovascular disorders leading to cerebral stroke, myocardial infarction, and sudden death.
