Power spectral density algorithm compared to autocorrelation algorithm in Doppler ultrasound cardiotocography

Abstract:
The autocorrelation algorithm of beat-to-beat fetal heart rate detection is considered to be the paradigm in computerized cardiotocography. The new fast FHR detection algorithm based on short-term Fourier transform offers an alternative and has to be metrologically estimated against the autocorrelation counterpart. The time shift between the FHR recordings under comparison was determined by cross-correlation and qualified by mean-square residual. Taking the time shift into account, the difference of the FHR recordings was estimated by means of linear regression, the benchmarking assessment of FHR variability, as well as the variation analysis of the FHR difference were carried out, and finally, the standard uncertainty of FHR measurement by means of spectral algorithm was estimated. The method and the software for implicit estimation of the standard uncertainty for the FHR measurements were developed. The least divergence of FHR variability benchmarks revealed at the window size of 5÷7 [s] applied to the signal by the spectral algorithm. The least divergence of the STV index was demonstrated at the window size 3,75 s. The spectral algorithm in each case performed up to fivefold faster than the autocorrelation algorithm.
