Investigation of the Individual Features of Effluent Dialyzate UV Absorption Spectra in a Dialysis Machine Outlet

Abstract:
A novel method for quantitative characterization of spectral profiles of UV absorption of effluent dialyzate in a dialysis machine outlet is considered; classification of spectra in three groups by the shape of the absorption curve was introduced. Statistical analysis of the distribution of chronic renal failure patients on hemodialysis by the shape of the absorption curve in a wavelength range of 250-300 nm is carried out for the group of 77 patients; this distribution follows to the normal law. Prolonged observations showed that for every patient the shape of the spectrum remained virtually unchanged not only during one hemodialysis session but also for several sessions over a considerable period of time (more than two months). It was assumed that the shape of the UV absorption spectrum is an additional characteristic of metabolic processes and excretion mechanisms in chronic renal failure patients.
