The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of external factors on the fluctuation of the amplitudes of received signals in radar stations of the meter wavelength range. To eliminate accidental coincidences in the identification of types of military equipment, the study was carried out at two remote positions, each of which has on-duty radars with different types of probing signals. Position 1 was used to set statistics in the winter and spring season, position 2 – in the summer. For the study, AO types A and B were selected, the airframe configurations of which differ in their design, but are similar in geometric dimensions.
In order to study the influence of external factors on the amplitudes of the received signals at each position, sections of air routes with a length of about 50 km (an average flight span of 15 turns of the radar antenna) were selected, along which regular scheduled flights are carried out. In these areas, the amplitudes of echo signals from the AO at the output of the primary information processing system of the standby radar were recorded under various weather and natural conditions.
When analyzing fluctuations in the amplitudes of the received signals and the received amplitude distributions in the identified areas, the flight characteristics of the AO, weather conditions during the study, the time of day and the associated position of the Sun relative to the horizon, as well as the flight altitude of the AO relative to the radar station were taken into account.
Based on this stage of the study, it can be concluded that external weather and natural factors significantly affect the fluctuation of the amplitudes of the received signals. Identification of scheduled military aircraft regularly flying along the same route is possible only taking into account external weather and natural factors, and can be carried out according to graphs and ranges of fluctuations in the amplitudes of received signals from each type of military aircraft, and if they coincide, according to the laws of amplitude distribution of these signals, taking into account the angle of the object relative to the line of sight of the radar.
As a result of the work done, mathematical models were developed for identifying the sequence of amplitudes of received signals in the radar of the meter wavelength range, which ensure decision-making on the identification of types of HE of the same class, taking into account weather and natural conditions.
The implementation of AO identification algorithms does not require significant changes in radar equipment, as it is based on signals from the outputs of the primary information processing system. Therefore, at the initial stage, it is sufficient to connect a separate computer with the appropriate software to the workplace of the radar operator.
In the future, these algorithms can be used as the basis for software training of artificial intelligence to perform one of the main tasks of radar – identification of the type of military equipment in real time.
