Abstract:

Formulation of the problem. Narrowband professional radio communication systems are currently actively developing and operate in frequency bands allocated for them. However, the specific radio channels used in these frequency ranges are a priori unknown, and a fixed grid of possible carriers may be absent. In such cases, the detection/reception procedures performed by analyzers of these systems for multiple carriers in the wide band under study become excessively computationally intensive. In this regard, the preliminary detection of carriers is a relevant task for reducing the overall processing time.

The aim of the work is to develop and analyze an algorithm for the preliminary detection of active channels in narrowband radio systems based on a wideband signal.

Results. A simple two-stage algorithm is proposed for preliminary detection of carrier frequencies of active channels of narrowband radio systems based on the spectrum of a wideband signal. The algorithm effectively rejects both narrowband interference and wideband signals from other communication systems. As a result of testing on a large array of real wideband signal recordings for the DMR radio system, it was found that, provided no DMR carriers are missed, the average number of candidate carriers for the proposed algorithm is approximately 2.5 times lower than that of known analogs, which provides a significant gain in performance.

Practical significance. The proposed algorithm for preliminary detection of active channels of narrowband radio systems has been successfully implemented in radio monitoring and radio control equipment.
