Abstract:
The aim of this study was the analysis of levels of cytokines and their soluble receptors in blood serum of cancer patients as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of sepsis and septic shock. We investigated cancer patients of intensive care units with sepsis (n=27) and septic shock (n=50), саncer patients without septic complications (n=23) and healthy volunteers (n=29).We evaluated the serum levels of cytokines (IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, INFγ, TNFα, TNFβ, IL-1β, IL-4, IL-17, IL-2, IL-18, IL-5) and their soluble receptors (sR TNF, sR IL-1 II, sR IL-6) by ELISA kits. The serum cytokines IL-6, IL-10, IL-18 and soluble receptor sR TNF I in concentrations significantly exceeded those for healthy donors could be considered as markers of sepsis and septic shock for cancer patients. High concentrations of IL-8, IL-10, sR IL-1 II in blood of patients with sepsis appear to be negative prognostic indicators.
