Abstract:
The aim of our study was to analyze the clinical significance of the Cav-1 immunohistochemical expression in 52 esophageal squamous cell carcinomas (ESCC) and 20 adenocarcinomas of the esophagus. Increased Cav-1 immunoxpression appears to play an important role as a marker of prognosis and aggressive biological behaviour in ESCC, but not in adenocarcinoma of the esophagus. The high level of Cav-1 expression was correlated with tumor histological differentiation (р = 0,020), distant lymph node metastasis (р = 0,027) and shorter overall survival (р = 0,039) of ESCC patients.
Our results indicate that the increased Cav-1 expression in ESCC is associated with tumor progression and may be useful in personalized prognosis of disease progression and future therapeutic approaches for ESCC patients.
