The article deals with the problem of investigating the mechanism of occurrence of variable forces and moments in the connection of shafts with toothed couplings when the shaft axes are misaligned. In turbine units, gear couplings are used to connect the shafts of engines (turbines) and drive units such as compressors and pumps. Since in this case the connected rotors of the installations have thrust bearings, gear couplings ensure mutual displacement of the shafts, which occurs due to their thermal linear expansion, force influences, displacement of supports and other reasons. Gear couplings with an intermediate gear shaft have become the most widespread in turbine construction. The accumulated extensive experience in the design, manufacture and operation of toothed joints allows you to create coupling designs that provide a long service life and withstand heavy loads. It should be noted that it is not easy to reduce the mutual influence of shafts connected by such a coupling, because for this you need to greatly reduce the length of the teeth to reduce.
