Abstract:

In over-the-horizon short-wave radar there is a significant problem of systematic errors in determining the true coordinates of detected objects caused by the propagation of signals in the multilayer ionosphere. Various cases of radio wave propagation based on the equivalent reflection height model are considered. We show 4 situations in this article – 2 simple mods, 2 combined mods and simple/combined mods combinations. The results of mathematical modeling are presented, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed method for eliminating systematic errors. The proposed method, in case of availability of elevation measurements, can be used in over-the-horizon radar stations.
