Abstract:
In this paper the synthesis of lithium isopropoxide by dissolving lithium metal in excess of isopropyl alcohol are considered. Crystallizational purification of the product from a solution in n-heptane are carried out. Both concentrations, impurities content and coefficients of distribution between crystal and solution in lithium isopropoxide are investigated by ICP-MS and ICP-AES methods. It is concluded that these methods can be used for the analysis of lithium alkoxides. It is shown that there are quantitative transition metal impurities in a solution containing the desired product during the synthesis of lithium alkoxide. However it is found that the distribution coefficients \"main substance - impurity\" at crystallization from solution of alcohol and alcohol-hexane mixtures are close to one, thus the crystallizational purification is ineffective.
