Power amplifier based on polar architecture using switched-mode class-E PA allows achieving efficiency up to 80-85%. Despite high values of efficiency, PA must contribute bandwidth requirements. The main component in polar architecture PA that is limiting the bandwidth is envelope amplifier (EA). To obtain high efficiency and wide enough bandwidth only several types of EA could be applied. Most promising solution is discrete level EA. Distortion characteristics of this switched-mode EA have obvious dependence on level quantity. Most publications on this topic contains only efficiency-based research, but signal distortion measurement wasn`t performed. Moreover, such characteristics as EVM, BER and ACPR are also considered as subject for research.
