Abstract:

When digitizing signals, it is necessary to match the dynamic range of the analog-to-digital converters and the signals being recorded. In practice, there are situations where it is necessary to digitize and transmit signals with different amplitudes, ranging from noise to signals from nearby radio systems, with the same accuracy over communication channels with limited bandwidth. In such cases, radio system designers face a choice between losing information in signals from powerful sources or reducing the accuracy of digitizing already weak signals.

Objective: to develop and test methods of digital processing of sparse signals, which allow to digitize signals in a large dynamic range with sufficient accuracy and at the same time to use analog-to-digital converters with a dynamic range that is many times less than the dynamic range of the received signals.

Results. Two methods of digital processing of signals have been developed and tested, which allow to digitize signals in a large dynamic range and to transmit them in a compressed form over communication channels with a low bandwidth.

Practical significance. The developed methods allow the use of publicly available (cheap) analog-to-digital converters for accurate digitization of signals in a wide dynamic range and their transmission over low-speed communication channels.
