Abstract:

Two main variants of reception of signals with unknown polarization are considered: В1 – signal reception is done by an antenna system with the aperture area SA and a specific polarization that generally does not coincide with polarization of the signal; В2 – signal reception is done by a dual-channel receiver, in each channel of which antenna systems have equal aperture areas 0.5SA and specified mutually orthogonal polarizations not coinciding with polarization of the signal. We have obtained analytical expressions for calculation of signal detection probabilities, in presumption that the receivers process signal optimally, and for the dual-channel receiver detection is defined by decisions taken on presence (absence) of a target in each channel. Calculations were performed, and it was shown that the dual-channel receiver that provides signal reception on two orthogonal polarizations has a higher conflict resilience when receiving signals of unknown polarization, in comparison with a single-channel receiver with antenna system on a specific polarization that has an equivalent advantage in signal-to-noise ratio 4−5 dB.
