Abstract:

The design and development of modern information management systems (IUS) is impossible without analyzing and predicting their reliability. At the same time, the objectives of the analysis are the optimal distribution of reliability between the components of the equipment, the choice of the structure that provides the highest values of reliability indicators, the determination of the necessary degree of redundancy, the optimal choice of the initial values of the parameters of the components of the equipment of information and control systems.

Redundancy is one of the ways to increase the reliability of IUS equipment, which is achieved through the use of redundant elements. This means that along with the main elements or systems as a whole that perform a given function, redundant (redundant) elements or systems are provided in the scheme or design, which are not functionally necessary, but are intended to replace the corresponding elements (systems) in case of their failure.

The operability of systems without redundancy requires the operability of all elements of the system. In complex technical devices, to which IUS are applied without redundancy, it is never possible to achieve high reliability even if elements with high reliability indicators are used (probability of failure-free operation, average operating time to failure, failure rate, failure flow parameter, etc.).

In this regard, the implementation of redundancy methods using various types of backup schemes, as well as additional means and (or) opportunities that are redundant in relation to the minimum necessary, will ensure a rational distribution of reliability between the components of the system, the choice of the optimal structure that provides the greatest values of reliability indicators.
