The article describes a systematic approach to a development of a hand-held nonlinear radar with increased range, designed to search for ground-based electronic devices (IED remote control channels) during terrain monitoring and demining. Scientifically and practically sound proposals have been developed for the selection of the optimized parameters and a signal processing algorithm for the operation of a long-range hand-held nonlinear radar. A prototype, created using aforementioned principles, provides a reliable detection range for the typical surface radio-electronic targets at distances over 20 m. The long-range nonlinear radar not only allows to carry out fast-paced monitoring and demining operations, but also gives a reasonable explosion protection for an operator.
