The accuracy estimation of differential distance measurements in a telecommunications system with radar functions

Abstract:

A theoretical consideration of the ways to build a passive radar system containing two receiving and two reference radio stations showed that under given conditions the conditional coefficient of the system has acceptable values for |β| <π/3. The case of large |β| is easy to avoid the appropriate choice of reference radio stations.

The results of the study of the influence of differential-distance measurement errors on the boundary of the absolute location error suggest that with the indicated values of β it is possible to ensure the minimum error of the considered location system in single measurements at about 0.5 of the positioning center error of the receiving points. For this, the error of the differential distance measuring meter should be no worse than 4∙10−5 of the required error of determining the location of the radio emission source. The results obtained may be useful in building flat systems for locating a remote source of radio emission under conditions of inaccurate positioning of receiving points. At the same time, the positioning accuracy of the emitting points should be ensured not worse than the measurement accuracy.
