Abstract:

It is well known that sea clutter in a radar with high range resolution is nongaussian, of pulse type. Nonlinear converter (limiter of maximum values) is used for suppression of such clutter at the input of matched filter. The features of sea clutter model which are important for optimization of amplitude characteristics of nonlinear converter and for estimation of its operational efficiency are considered. The sea clutter model defined as Gaussian nonstationary process. Experimental estimate of the moments of its distribution for a radar with coherent pulse package has perform. It is shown that application of nonlinear converter for suppression of sea clutter is not judicious.
