Abstract:

At the initial stage of the TWTO design, as a rule, it is necessary to consider a very large number of design solutions, which makes it problematic to use programs that strictly take into account the three-dimensional nature of the physical processes in the interaction space. For these purposes, in most cases it is advisable to use simpler computing programs.

A program FENIX-TWT for calculating the interaction space of TWTO allows one to simulate the TWTO operation in a single-signal mode in the nonlinear one-dimensional formulation with allowance for the second harmonic. It is possible to optimize automatically the input signal and the voltage of the slowing system both separately and together. It is possible to specify either a law of variation in the pitch of the helix or a law of variation of the phase difference between the wave and the first harmonic of the grouped beam current.

Data are presented on the results of calculations and tests of the prototype TWTO X-band with one gap between the middle and the output sections. Good agreement between calculation results and experimental studies was obtained.
