It was suggested to use properties of mapping quadrupole lens for selective isolation of ions. It allows increasing the ion transmission coefficient more than by an order in quadrupole mass-analyzers and providing controllable velocity spread of ions transversally on their outputs that is very important under usage of this type of devices consisting of tandem mass spectrometers.
